American Fair Culture book published

In August 2005 I started a series of photographs of people who display their animals, art, home ec projects — and themselves — at county fairs in Indiana.

I collaborated with Gerald Waite of Ball State University, who wrote the book’s essay about fair culture and what it says about us as participants and observers. Fair Culture has just been published by the Historical Society Press (July 2011). It’s available in bookstores and on Amazon.com.

  1. I love Jesse Bollenbucher’s portrait, and his name makes it even better. He has a caricatured shape and using the horse as a backdrop is very creative for texture and story.
